Employees - Enroll in and Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) - Android instructions

 

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) provides an extra layer of protection used to aid in the security of online accounts beyond just a username and password. Multi-factor verification applies to accounts accessing college resources.

 

Step 1: Requires a Personal Computer.

  1. Enter your employee email address. (username@palmbeachstate.edu) or student email address. (username@my.palmbeachstate.edu)

If you have multiple Microsoft accounts (for ex. at other schools) you may need to completely sign out of your account in order to sign into your Palm Beach State Microsoft Account.

  1. You will be redirected to the Palm Beach State sign on page, enter your password here

  1. Click "Set it up now".

  1. Choose "Mobile app" as your preferred method of verification.
  • Recommended: By choosing the ‘approval notification’ option, a message will be sent to your phone that will ask you to press approve, then you will be logged in. This method requires wifi or a cell phone signal to work.
  • By choosing the ‘security code’ option will generate a code on your phone to enter on your log on screen, after entering the code you will be logged in.  You should choose this option if your wifi or cell signal is spotty or sometimes unreliable.
  1. Select "Set up" to configure the mobile device.

  1. Hover your phone's camera in front of the bar code on your computer screen. Your phone will automatically detect the QR code.

  1. From the Authentication Window select "Next." A test verification will be sent to your mobile device, select approve to move forward.

Verification

 

  1. You will be prompted to set up an additional security verification method. Microsoft will use this second method if you lose access to the mobile app. 
  • Recommended: Authentication phone -  You can choose any phone number to authenticate with. You should immediately receive a call from Microsoft from an Unknown number. When prompted, press # to authenticate.
  • Office phone - Your college-provided office number should automatically populate. Since 2FA is currently only required for off-campus usage, this option is not recommended as a method of verification. You should immediately receive a call from Microsoft from an Unknown number. When prompted, press # to authenticate.

Step 2: Download and Install Microsoft Authenticator on  Android.

  1. In the Play Store, type in Microsoft Authenticator and click Install, and the app will begin to download onto your phone.

  1. Once the install completes, the app will appear on your home screen.  Tap it to open. 

To set up your Palm Beach State account within the app, follow the instructions below.

1. Click the + in the middle of the screen to add an account

 

 Click on  the plus sign to add account

 

2. Select "Work or school account".

  1. You may receive a prompt asking to allow Authenticator to take pictures and record video.  If you press Deny, you will not be able to scan the QR code.

  1. Scan the QR code you received when setting up additional security verification. (If you do not have a QR code, follow the instructions in this article).

Alternatively, you can type in the code and URL provided by choosing "Or enter the code manually".

  1. Your Palm Beach State account will now be set up in the authenticator app for two-factor authentication.
